Ocellaris Clownfish and Anemone

Clownfish and share a symbiotic relationship in their natural surroundings; each rely on the other to exist. Clownfish rely on for predator protection, and rely on clownfish for food.

Different kinds of clownfish like to live with or host different kinds of anemones. If you're putting together an aquarium and want to maintain clownfish and anemones, one of these natural pairings makes sense, but don't be shocked if your clownfish have other ideas.

Nothing is set in stone for any sea creature, and many clownfish will avoid going near their "favorite" anemone. After rejecting every anemone provided to it, clownfish have been known to host feather dusters and toadstool corals, among other things.

After a few generations, some aquarists feel that tank-raised clownfish do not host anemones as readily as wild-caught clownfish. The theory is that their parents and grandparents have never seen anemones and hence lack the inclination or need to protect themselves from predators.
